The Seville Mushrooms
The elements of the Metropol Parasol in Seville, the giant wooden structure in Seville, was going to be assembled using heavy metal supporting brackets. Building was started in 2005, but it would be stopped soon. The actual weight of the “mushrooms” exceeded estimate, thus it was necessary to reduce number of metal parts. A renewed feasible design was based on glue as reinforcement. The search for an appropriate adhesive took two years, and finally the total cost of the structure increased twice.
GEOFIP adhesive embodied the idea of building without any nails in order to give nutrient-rich food for modern engineers and designers’ imagination.
